Azure Veil Vase

I loved making this vase. The process was truly meditative for me—each step felt intentional and calming. I built Azure Veil from round coils rather than shaping it on a wheel. Building with coils fosters a direct, tactile connection to the clay because each coil is shaped, placed, and blended by hand. This method requires me to be consistently attentive to the clay’s moisture and flexibility, adjusting my touch as I work. The gradual, layered process encourages mindfulness and presence, making me more aware of the material’s qualities and my own movements. Many artists, including myself, find this approach meditative, as it allows for a slow, intentional rhythm and a deeper engagement with the evolving form It felt as if I was slowly revealing the form, the process hypnotic as the curves and shape came to life under my hands.

The quiet elegance of this piece feels like a whispered secret—the way mist clings to the ocean at dawn, how the sky softens before the storm. The Azure Veil Vase is not simply blue; it is movement, translucence, the shifting boundary between seen and unseen.

The glazing process was perhaps the most challenging and rewarding part. I tried to capture the feeling of mist and water by using multiple layers on different surfaces of the vase, allowing the colors to flow with subtle variations.

Reflections:

The Azure Veil Vase feels alive and quietly mysterious, as if it holds a secret just beneath its surface. I’m proud of the patience and care I brought to this piece. The process reminded me that the journey of making art can be as meaningful as the finished work. I hope to create more pieces that evoke this same sense of calm and wonder—pieces that invite quiet contemplation and celebrate the beauty in subtlety.

“Azure Veil” stands as a quiet testament to the peace and fulfillment that comes from mindful creation
