Searching for the Best Rainbow Mug, With AI in Tow

These images are all AI drawings based upon my descriptions none of them have actually been created.

I’ve been chasing the perfect rainbow mug—one that feels like a splash of joy after Vermont’s mud season. In that search, I’ve started exploring vibrant design possibilities using an unexpected tool: AI. All of the pictures above were generated from the AI software. None of them are real pottery.

With Perchance, I can describe an idea—maybe “sunset over Camel’s Hump” or “Leo the cat knocking over a fern” and it generates visual concepts that can spark real inspiration. Some are wildly impractical (like a mug shaped like a maple tree), but they help me imagine new forms and palettes that I can actually bring to life in clay.

It’s like brainstorming with a digital gnome who’s hopped up on sap and color theory. Ideas and forms are inspired.

This AI tool is like a brainstorming partner who never rolls its eyes, never needs coffee, and always says, “What if…” You should give it a try for your own projects. I think you’ll be very happy.

For now, I’m back to the clay studio in beautiful Vermont to work on the challenge of creating my next rainbow mug.
