Whimsical Sole

Sometimes I start a clay project with one clear idea in mind, but as the piece takes shape, it transforms into something entirely different. In this particular case, I initially planned to create an elongated and relatively flat vase with a narrow opening. However, as I worked on it and let the clay guide me, the form began to resemble the shape of a shoe. Being someone who walks regularly, I found myself recalling the chalk drawings that children make on neighborhood sidewalks. Inspired by this nostalgic image, I decided to follow that thought and the piece evolved into what I now call the Whimsical Soul—part vase, part sculpture. The project was a delightful journey and was meant to capture not only the joys and innocence of childhood but also the playful, carefree spirit I experienced while creating it.

Whimsical Soul—a ceramic vase shaped like a child’s shoe—echoes the carefree lines and sun-washed colors of chalk art drawn by little hands.
